I really enjoyed the conference and thought it was one of the most well-organized international conferences that I have attended. I want to thank all of the organizers for their great work!

I thought that the conference program was very versatile and gave a comprehensive overview of important issues that nurses in Kazakhstan are currently facing.

Perhaps in future conferences the schedule could be planned so that there is more time for questions after each presentation. For example, presentations could be 10-15 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for questions and comments. This would allow for participants to also be heard.

I would recommend using some kind of mechanism for staying on schedule at conferences so that all presenters are given equal time to present. For example, presenters could be shown a piece of paper when they have 2 minutes of time left and then told when their time is up.

I also felt that it would be important that English speakers have their PowerPoint presentations translated into Russian language. This would help those people who do not have translation headsets to follow along in English presentations.

All in all I felt that this conference was a great way to share information with nurses in Kazakhstan on current issues. It would be really nice if conferences like this could be organized every two or three years.

Kind regards,

Ashlee Oikarainen

I want to congratulate you for a very well organized conference.

The participants seemed to be very engaged and wanted to learn more.

Dear Conference Team,

I thought it was a wonderful conference! The attendees were obviously passionate about nursing, and seemed to be eager to make changes. Suggestions:

1. The presentations (especially Plenary ones) might need to be a little longer than 20 minutes each. It is very hard to get all of the information in within 20 minutes, and most people went over the time limit.
2. The breaks and lunch (for the speakers) were very nicely done. You might want to consider splitting one long break into two shorter ones, since it can be difficult for some people to sit for extended periods of time and still be able to concentrate on what is being said (especially when needed an interpreter.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

Best regards,
Dr. Marlena Primeau

Dear conference team,

The first international nursing conference of Kazakhstan was successful in initiating the next decade when investments in nursing in Kazakhstan will empower a transformation, which I believe will positively improve the lives of every citizen in this nation. The nurses of Kazakhstan have been noted by foreigners for their heart and commitment since the early days of independence. Over the last two decades, resources have been spent on building new hospitals, clinics, educational capacity, and to acquire modern instruments and medications, which in turn required tremendous adaptation and flexibility from the nursing corp. As was discussed at the conference, effectively transforming healthcare requires that nurses participate in the building of new models. Nurses will need higher technical levels, and leaders will need the highest level of scientific knowledge to become leaders in innovation; leaders to help patients as they navigate all the changes; leaders to improve the quality and safety of patient care; and leaders to remodel the educational system of nursing. Everyone was encouraged to hear about the last five years of nurses training in Finland and collaboration, on "nursing care of patients with diabetes in primary care" and " nursing care of patients with cardiac pathology in primary care", and the relationships developed and the trainings on-going in Astana and Pittsburgh, USA.

This conference made clear that the next decade will be the most exciting time for nurses to help craft the remarkable health care system they have dreamed of. This effective conference made it clear to all – that Kazakhstan’s nurses are ready, the healthcare system is ready and the healthcare administrators are ready, to invest time, money and heart into the amazing transformation of nurses which I believe will become the innovating role model and inspiration for nurses around the world. I was certainly inspired by all that I heard and saw this week. There has never been a more exciting time to collaborate with each other; there has never been a more exciting time to become a nurse; and there has a never been a more exciting opportunity to positively impact the health and wellbeing of every person on the planet.

I look forward to collaborating with Kazakhstan to see more nurses becoming trained in geriatric care, wound care, informatics, and women’s health. I am excited about the possibilities of having many nurses come to the United States for short observations as well as the continued, and hopefully expanded, program of select nurses coming for advanced degrees.

The conference was well attended and the translation services were excellent. Each speaker brought into focus an aspect of the past and future goals of a large and eager nursing corp. I was inspired and excited by the chance to meet so many nursing leaders from around the country and I look forward to meeting many of them again in the future! I am hopeful that at future conferences we will have more translators at lunches so that we may interact with them more freely. I would suggest that at the end of the conference next year, everyone be asked to fill out forms with questions about the conference with Likert scales and concluding with an open ended question about what the nurses need to hear the most, which will allow you to compare from year to year and do research on the effectiveness of the conferences, while also allowing for adaptation to the changing needs of the nurses who attend. Thank you for allowing me to participate in this historic and well organized event.
